A man narrowly escaped death thanks to a thick silver chain that prevented a bullet from penetrating his neck during a shooting incident in Commerce City, in the US state of Colorado.

According to radio station CPR News, which quotes the local police, the event, worthy of a crime movie, took place during an argument.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was hit by a .22 caliber bullet, which got stuck in the silver chain around his neck. The chain, which was approximately 10 mm wide, managed to stop the bullet, leaving the man with only a small puncture wound. The incident took place last Tuesday.

Commerce City police say a necklace might’ve saved a man’s life by blocking a bullet
The bullet lodged in the almost half-inch-wide, silver-colored, metal chain in the shooting Tuesday night in Commerce City.

Commerce City police officers shared details and photos of the bloody chain on social media, highlighting the miraculous outcome.

“We'd say he actually dodged a bullet - but in fact, he PRISONED a bullet,” local police explain in a Facebook post. “This silver chain is probably the only reason the victim of a shooting we responded to yesterday is still alive.”

The suspected shooter, who also remains unidentified, was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder. The authorities stress that although the chain looked like silver, it was probably not made of pure silver. “Silver is a softer metal and may not have stopped a bullet,” explained the police.

The Commerce City Police Department took a humorous approach when commenting on the incident, joking, “Maybe this will make you think twice before you devalue an imitation,” and adding, “Simply amazing.”

The police publication has since gained significant attention and gone viral on social media, with many users expressing their amazement at the unusual stroke of luck that saved the man's life.
