The State of Baltimore has started legal proceedings against the companies responsible for the ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge almost a month ago.
The cargo ship "Dali" hit a pillar of the bridge, causing it to collapse and submerge into the river, along with several vehicles. Six people who were working on the bridge died.
The companies accused by the local state are Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine PTE LTD.
According to CNN, the Baltimore mayor's lawyers and the City Council accuse the two companies of having an "incompetent crew" on board. They lacked the necessary skills and were not trained.
The local authorities, who are demanding compensation for the damage, believe that the ship shouldn't even have left the port. It was not fit for the voyage.
"The reports indicated that, even before leaving port, alarms sounded showing that the Dali lacked power," said a Baltimore City lawyer, adding: "The Dali left port anyway, despite its clearly inaccessible condition."
Grace Ocean Private Limited has already defended itself, saying that it should not be held responsible for the accident.
But the state repeats: the "negligence of the companies is readily apparent. The City bears no responsibility
