147 countries, all continents, 425 ports. 3 and a half years traveling the world, always on a cruise ship.

And living on a ship is no more expensive than living on land.

This is guaranteed by Grace and Jerry Grady, the couple in this story who sold everything to afford this trip.

We ended up selling most of our belongings to friends. The smartest ones came straight away,” says Grace, quoted on yahoo news.

They have been living on minimum services for the last few months. They wear the same clothes every day and wash them by hand at the end of each day.

But they've made it: 40,000 euros a year, almost 150,000 euros for the whole trip. On average, more than 3,000 euros a month.

On the Villa Vie Odyssey, the most expensive rental is an outside cabin with a balcony: almost 73,000 euros a year, or 6,000 euros a month.

They are entitled to unlimited food and soft drinks, alcoholic drinks at dinner, free wi-fi and medical examinations (excluding medicines and clinical procedures). Permanent room service, weekly cleaning and a laundry service twice a week.

‘We sold everything’: Meet the retired couple setting sail on a 3.5 year cruise around the world
They say living on a ship is ‘no more expensive than living on land’.

The couple think they will spend on the ship what they would spend living on land.

With two differences: they're going around the world and not paying bills, expenses, insurance... Oh, and they don't unpack after each trip.

It's been a dream of Jerry's for a long time: “It's always been a dream of mine to see the world. I want to get this thing going”.

“We're vagabonds, we've traveled a lot. I'm not worried about anything,” adds Grace.

If they want to leave before the end of the trip, all they have to do is give at least six months' notice; they get a full refund - and have the right to return to the ship at any time.

But the opposite can happen: they love it so much and never return to land.

The voyage begins this Thursday, May 30, in Belfast (Northern Ireland).
