Some people are very happy with the food on offer on the train, especially during long journeys.

Some people don't appreciate it at all, so they start cooking. Yes, on the train.

That's what Isabelle Joëlla, star of TikTok in the Netherlands, has started doing.

Isabelle started cooking chicken drumsticks in a frying pan on the train. This was after she had cooked pasta, also on the train. She posted the video, which obviously went viral.

The reactions didn't stop at open mouths or smiles. All over the internet people are asking: can you?

The tiktoker assures us that she can cook inside, that she wasn't breaking any rules.

According to Oscar van Elferen, a spokesman for the NS train company quoted in the NL Times, the answer to “can it?” is... “It's not clear”.

It is not explicitly written that it is forbidden to use electric frying pans on the train.

Woman on TikTok fries chicken on the train and claims it is allowed
The best thing about long train journeys is the snacks you can eat. Most people resort to the simplest snack options, such as sandwiches, something sweet, or a coffee to go. For Dutch TikTokker Isabelle Joëlla, however, this is too boring. She, on the other hand, prepares drumsticks in a pan on the train, which has now gone viral. Even though the video caused many laughs, there is now a heated debate about whether this is allowed. An NS spokesperson sets the record straight.

What is written are the basic rules of behavior: “You must not disturb anyone and you must not create unsafe situations or nuisances. Frying a chicken leg... that's the case”.

This is the case for two reasons: the smell can bother many passengers and electric cooking appliances always carry a dose of danger.

“We don't want to see that on the train. Many people understand this well; there's hardly any need for rules about it,” van Elferen commented.
