The Russian government is concerned about the tension between Iran and Israel.
On Monday, the Kremlin called for "restraint on the part of all countries in the region. A new escalation does not serve the interests" of either country, analyzed Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
This time the call for restraint came from the President of Russia himself, who spoke to the President of Iran by video call.
Vladimir Putin told Ebrahim Raisi that taking the conflict with Israel to another level would have "disastrous consequences".
"Vladimir Putin expressed the hope that all parties would show reasonable restraint and avoid a new round of confrontation that would have disastrous consequences for the entire region," reads the Kremlin statement.
But Ebrahim Raisi repeated Iran's position: the country acted in self-defense when it attacked Israel with drones and missiles last weekend. "It was forced to take these measures, which were of a limited nature."
"At the same time, it stressed that Tehran is not interested in a new escalation of tension," the Russian government clarified.
The presidents of Russia and Iran consider that these developments have one origin: the lack of a solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
