Luis Rubiales was arrested this Wednesday as soon as he landed in Madrid from the Dominican Republic, where he had been since the controversy at the celebration of the Women's World Cup won by Spain, which earned him a punishment from FIFA.
The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office has asked for two and a half years in prison for the former RFEF president, for sexual assault and coercion, for having given a non-consensual kiss to Spanish footballer Jenni Hermoso during the celebrations.
Rubiales is also being investigated for alleged irregularities in contracts, unfair administration, money laundering and alleged membership of a criminal organization.
This Thursday, Luis Rubiales' uncle told Telecinco that his nephew is obsessed with money, luxury and sex.
Juan Rubiales, who was his nephew's chief of staff in the Federation, said that he was fired for refusing to go along with his nephew's decisions: "He fired me like in Franco's time, when they sent a driver with a note to tell the ministers that they were away. But he did it to me with an email at 10:30 pm (...) I told him there were things I didn't like."
"[Rubiales] told me that it was very difficult to see millions pass through our hands and take nothing. That's when I began to see a Rubiales that I didn't know as an uncle, a very ambitious man, obsessed with money, luxury, sex... That's when we began to separate and he realized that I wasn't going to be an accomplice"
Juan Rubiales accused his nephew of using Federation funds to throw parties and recounted an episode of a party in Salobreña with young girls: "I never said they were prostitutes, but they were girls of 18 and 19. I told him he was losing his mind and that they could be his daughters".
"He wants power to get money and sex," said Juan Rubiales, adding that his nephew needs psychological help and a social re-education plan: "He's authoritarian, sexist and sometimes racist. My nephew is a compulsive liar," he concluded.
Luis Rubiales still tried to resist the controversy caused by his kiss with Jenni Hermoso on August 20, 2023, but ended up resigning from the RFEF presidency at the beginning of September after a lot of pressure.
