We all remember her big hit "Mercy", which hit the radio in 2008.
However, little is known about the traumatic experience that the singer was forced to live through.
After four years of silence, singer Duffy has returned to social media to address her fans, who haven't heard any new music from her since 2008. This is because, in 2011, she announced a career break, which she only justified in 2020, after nine years away from the spotlight.
In an Instagram post, which is no longer available, Duffy claimed that four years ago she was "raped, drugged and held captive for a few days", noting that afterwards she didn't feel able to pursue a career in music.
"I hope you're well," she has now said on the social network Instagram, accompanied by "a little something to motivate the heart": a video about the true meaning of happiness.
"I didn't want to show the world the sadness"
Duffy said he had often thought about "writing this down". "Idon't entirely know why now is the right time, and how exciting and liberating it feels for me to talk about this," he said at the time.
"Many of you are wondering what happened to me, where I disappeared to and why. A journalist contacted me, found a way to reach me and I told him everything this past summer," she added.
